Baseline
information was also collected on Ecological status of Mammal and Avifauna Species
and recommendation for its management. o
The
monitoring show increasing in number of species recorded for mammal species
where a total of 41 of different mammal species while for avifauna species, a
total of 27 species was recorded. |

Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) o
Ten
(10) PSPs have been established in February and March 2019 o
Re-assessment
of PSP will be conduct in three (3) (min) or five (5) (max) year. o
No
info on growth rates, regeneration till re-assessment |

Composition
and changes in Flora |
o
Pre-inventory
data was available only for 35 blocks in Coupe 02BR and pre-inventory for
coupe 03B progressively on-going. o
Family
Dipterocarpaceae was the most abundant and dominated within all the PSPs with
1374 individuals recorded or about 30.61% of the total number and followed by
Euphorbiaceae and Myristicaceae with 746 (16.62%) and 201 (4.48%) trees
correspondingly. Other tree families recorded with more than 100 individuals
were Burseraceae, Fagaceae, Lauraceae, Malvaceae, Myrtaceae and Rubiaceae. |

ENVIRONMENT |
Harvesting
impacts |
o There is no still no harvesting impact has been evaluated since
harvesting operation just started in year 2022. |
|
Environmental
monitoring impact and compliances |
o Environmental monitoring impacts was conducted quarterly by consultant through
Environmental Monitoring Report (EMR) o Based on the EMR for quarter 1 until 4 for year 2023, the water
qualities were generally found to be good, with the most parameter monitored
within Class I to IIB of the NWQSM. pH and DO levels were moderately high (reading
were fairly common for river water in Sarawak). The BOD, COD and
ammoniacal nitrogen levels as well as the coliform count were all detected at
the low sides. The TSS level was low and within the Class II limit of 50
mg/1. No oil and grease were detected in the waterway, showing that the
machinery used were well maintained (i.e., no leakage), and the spent oil and
grease had not been thrown indiscriminately into the watercourse.

ECONOMIC |
Yield
of all forest product |
o Production
for Coupe 02BR started from October 2022 until end of August 2023.Out 0f 35
block, only 15 block successfully harvest with a total of 1,015 Ha had been
harvested. o Production
for Coupe 03B started on January 2024 and still progressively on going. |
|
Costs
and Productivity of forest management |
o Actual expenditure for year 2023 and budget for year 2024 have been
prepared |
|
|
Efficiency
of forest management |
o Evaluation between pre-felling inventory 100% enumeration and
production of harvested area will be conducted end of the year. o Production
for Coupe 02BR started from October 2022 until end of August 2023.Out 0f 35
block, only 15 block successfully harvest with a total of 1,015 Ha had been
harvested. |

SOCIAL |
Local communities |
|
|
Social
impact |
o Potentially
the FMU has a certain positive impact on the affected communities since FMU
on going to maintain the Forest management certification where the FMU need
to comply with all the principal. o
Local
community within and adjacent FMU has feedback that the logging has negative
impact to the community water supply. However,
monitoring on 13th -17th March 2023 show that the harvesting
stage activity at Coupe 02BR & 03B not affected the water supply
catchment where is surrounded by shifting agriculture area (SA) and hence this
area not be disturbed by the logging activity. o
There also
no water catchment local community that in the operation area (Coupe 02BR
& 03B) o Based community feedback and on-site monitoring on 13-17 March 2023
there also no any encroachment by harvesting activity to community SA, water
catchments and burial site has been recorded. o For Coupe
02BR (Total 37 blocks). Thus, 15 blocks already have agreement and consent
from the owner (local community within FMU) and FMU also
already harvested and made compensation based on the agreement. o Active Coupe
03B (32 Block), nine (9) blocks already endorse operation – 5- already have
agreement and consent from the owner (local community within FMU). o The local
community that stays at long house were still engaged in forest related
occupation such as Hunting, fishing and collect forest produce and sell it at
longhouses, adjacent school, and Kapit. Other than that, they also engaged in
farming as a mean of live- hood. They usually planted vegetable and fruit
tree in small scale for own consumption and sale. o Consultation
and awareness program has been conducted to the local community within and
adjacent FMU for year 2023. |
